Why do cops get away with drinking and driving and we can't?

I was at a party at the local VFW (frequented by many police officers). When my car wouldn't start, an officer (out of his uniform, offered to take me home.) I was unsure, he was pretty hammered, but I went. Sure enough, we got pulled over. All he did was say "Don't worry, kid. Happens all the time to us" He flashed his badge and that was that! Makes me want to go buy one at the next gun show. Handy little piece of metal. Also remember the website stopthecop.com.
